How to Sync to Manually

Step 1: Understand GoCardless API

Before extracting data, familiarize yourself with the GoCardless API. GoCardless provides comprehensive API documentation that includes details on how to authenticate requests and the endpoints available for data retrieval, such as payments, customers, and mandates.

To access the GoCardless API, you need to authenticate your requests. Obtain your API key from the GoCardless dashboard. Use this API key to authenticate your requests by including it in the HTTP header as a bearer token. This will grant you access to fetch data programmatically.

Using a programming language like Python, write a script to send HTTP GET requests to the GoCardless API endpoints of interest. Parse the JSON responses to structure the data appropriately. Save the extracted data into a format suitable for processing, such as CSV or JSON files, on your local machine.

Set up your ClickHouse database if it's not already done. Create necessary tables to match the structure of the data you extracted from GoCardless. Use ClickHouse"s SQL-like query language to define tables and data types that match the structure of your extracted data.

Ensure that the data format you extracted from GoCardless is compatible with ClickHouse. This involves converting data types (e.g., dates and timestamps) and ensuring data integrity and consistency. Use scripts or tools to reformat the data if necessary, aligning with ClickHouse"s data handling.

Use ClickHouse"s native client or a command-line tool to load data into your ClickHouse tables. For example, you can use the `clickhouse-client` command-line tool to execute `INSERT` queries or use bulk loading commands like `cat data.csv | clickhouse-client --query="INSERT INTO table_name FORMAT CSV"` to insert data efficiently.

After loading the data, run queries in ClickHouse to verify that the data has been imported correctly. Check for any discrepancies or errors in data types, missing records, or inconsistent data. Perform data validation checks to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the data in your warehouse.

By following these steps, you can manually transfer data from GoCardless to ClickHouse without relying on third-party connectors or integrations, ensuring control over the data handling process.
