OUR STORY
2020
Michel and Jean founded Airbyte in January 2020 and joined YC W20, where we explored ideas and learned from countless conversations with companies. We realized that, despite the tools available, teams were still forced to build and maintain their own connectors. That insight inspired us to return to our mission of making data movement easy. By September, we launched our first MVP with six connectors and began inviting feedback from the community to help shape our direction.

2021
Our community grew quickly, with usage doubling every month. To keep up with that momentum and grow our team, we raised a $5.2M seed round with Accel in February. Just a few months later, in May, we partnered with Benchmark through a $26M Series A to strengthen our long-term vision. By December, with 16k deployments and 150 connectors, we raised a $150M Series B to accelerate growth and better support the people relying on Airbyte every day.

2022
In April, we launched Airbyte Cloud to make Airbyte accessible to teams who didn’t want to host it themselves, introducing a pricing model that aligned with real-world usage. That same month, we welcomed the Grouparoo team into Airbyte, uniting around shared values and deep expertise to continue building the future of data movement together.

2023
2023 was a big time for product quality. We rolled out a lot of improvements like more flexible connector versioning in Airbyte Cloud, progressive rollouts, increases to our speed, and development of checkpointing.
Our most exciting development was shipping the Connector Builder: a low/no-code interface which allows users to create custom data connectors in under 10 minutes. This was a huge step forward in supporting our larger data community.

2024
In September 2024, we launched Airbyte 1.0 - a huge milestone that positioned us a truly Enterprise-ready data movement company. A huge step in establishing Airbyte as the Open Standard in data movement.

2025
Building on our 1.0 progress in 2024, we launched one of Airbyte's most important initiatives to date as part of Airbyte 2.0 - Enterprise Flex.
Flex has been built from the ground up to address hybrid deployment needs - cloud, multi-cloud, and on-prem.
We also launched Data Activation and improved speed - all in one unified platform.
