Informatica is a long-standing enterprise data management vendor. Its products include PowerCenter, the on-prem ETL tool, and Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC), which covers integration, master data management, data quality and cataloging. Salesforce completed its acquisition on November 18, 2025, and is combining Informatica with MuleSoft to support Data 360 and Agentforce 360.
The PowerCenter deadline
Standard support for PowerCenter 10.5 ended on March 31, 2026, and 10.5.10 was the last planned release. Extended support runs through March 2027 at extra cost, with narrower sustaining support after that. Informatica's guidance is that products past end of support don't get security updates or bug fixes for vulnerabilities.
Informatica's preferred path is migrating to IDMC. That's still a migration, onto a new consumption meter. If you're re-platforming anyway, you can choose any destination.
What the Salesforce acquisition means
Salesforce's stated goal is to make Informatica the data foundation for its own AI and CRM products. That raises fair questions for buyers whose stack centers on Snowflake, Databricks or BigQuery:
- Roadmap: Will investment favor Salesforce-centric use cases?
- Pricing: Will renewals be bundled into Salesforce's commercial model?
- Overlap: How will Informatica and MuleSoft integration products converge?
Airbyte is independent and destination-neutral. It treats every warehouse, lakehouse and database as a first-class destination.
Pricing: quote-only IPUs vs. published plans
Informatica bills IDMC in Informatica Processing Units, with no public per-IPU rate or tier price. Costs depend on which services consume IPUs and how much, which makes budgets hard to forecast as workloads grow.
Airbyte publishes its prices. Core is free to self-host. Standard starts at $20/month and Plus at $189/month. Pro and Enterprise Flex price on Data Workers, dedicated compute capacity, so rising data volume doesn't raise your bill.
Speed and simplicity
Airbyte is self-serve. Pick a source, pick a destination, and the first sync runs in minutes. Engineers can manage everything as code with the API, Terraform provider and PyAirbyte, and pair Airbyte with dbt for transformation.
Informatica's breadth comes with complexity. Teams often need certified specialists or professional services to implement and change pipelines.
Deployment and sovereignty
Airbyte runs four ways on one codebase: free self-hosted Core, managed cloud, hybrid with an Airbyte-managed control plane, or fully on-prem and multi-region with Enterprise Flex. That makes it a direct home for workloads leaving on-prem PowerCenter that still can't go to public SaaS.
Informatica offers a deep suite beyond data movement: master data management, data quality and enterprise cataloging. If those modules anchor your governance program, weigh them separately from ingestion.
