Predictable, straightforward pricing model that simplified budgeting and significantly reduced overall spend

Chase Zieman

“Airbyte helped us accelerate our progress by years, compared to our competitors. We don’t need to worry about connectors and focus on creating value for our users instead of building infrastructure. That’s priceless. The time and energy saved allows us to disrupt and grow faster.”

Rupak Patel
"With Airbyte, we could just push a few buttons, allow API access, and bring all the data into Google BigQuery. By blending all the different marketing data sources, we can gain valuable insights."
How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Set Up CoinMarketCap API Access
To access CoinMarketCap data, you'll need to register for an API key. Visit the CoinMarketCap website, create an account, and subscribe to the API plan that suits your needs. Once registered, you will receive an API key that will be used to authenticate your requests.
Step 2: Install Required Python Libraries
Use Python's `requests` library to interact with the CoinMarketCap API. Install it via pip if you haven't already:
```bash
pip install requests
```
Step 3: Fetch Data Using CoinMarketCap API
Write a Python script to fetch the data. Use the `requests` library to call the CoinMarketCap API endpoint with your API key to get the desired cryptocurrency data. Here is a basic example:
```python
import requests
url = 'https://pro-api.coinmarketcap.com/v1/cryptocurrency/listings/latest'
headers = {
'Accepts': 'application/json',
'X-CMC_PRO_API_KEY': 'your_api_key'
}
response = requests.get(url, headers=headers)
data = response.json()
```
Step 4: Parse the Retrieved Data
Extract the necessary fields from the JSON data returned by the API. Identify the specific data points you need to store in your MySQL database (such as cryptocurrency names, symbols, prices, etc.). You can loop through the JSON objects to extract this information.
Step 5: Set Up the MySQL Database
Ensure that your MySQL server is running and you have created a database to store the data. Use MySQL Workbench or the MySQL command line to create the necessary tables. Here's a simple SQL command to create a table:
```sql
CREATE TABLE crypto_data (
id INT AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY,
name VARCHAR(50),
symbol VARCHAR(10),
price DECIMAL(18,8),
market_cap DECIMAL(18,8),
volume_24h DECIMAL(18,8)
);
```
Step 6: Connect to MySQL and Insert Data
Use Python's `mysql-connector-python` library to connect to your MySQL database and insert the parsed data. Install it via pip:
```bash
pip install mysql-connector-python
```
Then, write a Python script to insert the data:
```python
import mysql.connector
connection = mysql.connector.connect(
host='your_mysql_host',
user='your_mysql_user',
password='your_mysql_password',
database='your_database'
)
cursor = connection.cursor()
insert_query = """
INSERT INTO crypto_data (name, symbol, price, market_cap, volume_24h)
VALUES (%s, %s, %s, %s, %s)
"""
for crypto in data['data']:
cursor.execute(insert_query, (
crypto['name'],
crypto['symbol'],
crypto['quote']['USD']['price'],
crypto['quote']['USD']['market_cap'],
crypto['quote']['USD']['volume_24h']
))
connection.commit()
cursor.close()
connection.close()
```
Step 7: Schedule Regular Updates
To keep your data current, schedule the Python script to run at regular intervals. Use a task scheduler like `cron` on Unix-based systems or Task Scheduler on Windows. This will automate the data fetching and updating process, ensuring your MySQL database remains up-to-date.
By following these steps, you can effectively move data from CoinMarketCap to a MySQL destination without relying on third-party connectors.
