How to load data from Exchange Rates Api to TiDB

Learn how to use Airbyte to synchronize your Exchange Rates Api data into TiDB within minutes.

Building your pipeline or Using Airbyte

Airbyte is the only open source solution empowering data teams  to meet all their growing custom business demands in the new AI era.

Building in-house pipelines

Bespoke pipelines are:
  • Inconsistent and inaccurate data
  • Laborious and expensive
  • Brittle and inflexible
Furthermore, you will need to build and maintain Y x Z pipelines with Y sources and Z destinations to cover all your needs.

After Airbyte

Airbyte connections are:
  • Reliable and accurate
  • Extensible and scalable for all your needs
  • Deployed and governed your way
All your pipelines in minutes, however custom they are, thanks to Airbyte’s connector marketplace and AI Connector Builder.

Start syncing with Airbyte in 3 easy steps within 10 minutes

Set up a Exchange Rates Api connector in Airbyte

Connect to or one of 400+ pre-built or 10,000+ custom connectors through simple account authentication.

Set up TiDB for your extracted Exchange Rates Api data

Select where you want to import data from your source to. You can also choose other cloud data warehouses, databases, data lakes, vector databases, or any other supported Airbyte destinations.

How to Sync to Manually

Step 1: Access the Exchange Rates API

Begin by obtaining access to the exchange rates API. This typically involves signing up on the API provider's platform to receive an API key. Use this key to authenticate your requests. Familiarize yourself with the API documentation to understand the data structures and endpoints available for retrieving exchange rate information.

Step 2: Fetch Data Using Custom Script

Write a custom script in a programming language of your choice (e.g., Python, Java, or Node.js) to fetch data from the exchange rates API. Use HTTP requests to access the API endpoints, ensuring you handle response formats like JSON or XML. Parse the response to extract the relevant exchange rate data.

Step 3: Transform and Clean Data

Once the data is fetched, transform and clean it as necessary. This could involve converting data formats, handling missing values, or restructuring the data to fit your database schema in TiDB. Ensure that the data is in a consistent format that aligns with your intended database structure.

Step 4: Set Up TiDB Environment

Install and configure TiDB on your server or local machine. Follow the official TiDB installation guide to set up a TiDB cluster. Ensure that TiDB is up and running, and you can connect to it via a SQL client. Create the necessary database and tables that will store the exchange rate data, defining appropriate data types and keys.

Step 5: Develop Data Insertion Script

Write a script to insert the transformed data into TiDB. This script should connect to the TiDB instance using a suitable library or driver (e.g., MySQL connector for Python). Construct SQL `INSERT` statements based on the structure of your TiDB tables and execute these statements to populate the database with the fetched exchange rate data.

Step 6: Schedule Regular Data Updates

Implement a scheduling mechanism to automate the data fetching and insertion process. Use a cron job on Unix-based systems or Task Scheduler on Windows to run your data fetching and insertion scripts at regular intervals (e.g., hourly or daily) to keep the exchange rate data in TiDB up-to-date.

Step 7: Monitor and Optimize Performance

Regularly monitor the performance of your data pipeline and TiDB instance. Check for issues such as network latency, API rate limits, or database bottlenecks. Optimize your scripts and database queries for efficiency. Consider indexing strategies in TiDB to improve query performance and ensure that your data processing workflow is robust and scalable.

By following these steps, you can effectively transfer data from an exchange rates API to TiDB without relying on third-party connectors or integrations.
