“Airbyte helped us accelerate our progress by years, compared to our competitors. We don’t need to worry about connectors and focus on creating value for our users instead of building infrastructure. That’s priceless. The time and energy saved allows us to disrupt and grow faster.”

Rupak Patel
"With Airbyte, we could just push a few buttons, allow API access, and bring all the data into Google BigQuery. By blending all the different marketing data sources, we can gain valuable insights."
How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Understand Okta's API Capabilities
Begin by familiarizing yourself with Okta's REST APIs, as they will be your primary tool for extracting data. Okta's APIs allow you to access user data, groups, and other identity resources. Review the API documentation to understand the endpoints available and how to authenticate requests.
Step 2: Set Up API Authentication in Okta
To make requests to Okta's API, you need an API token. Log in to the Okta Admin Console, navigate to "Security" > "API" > "Tokens," and create a new token. Note the token value, as you'll use it to authenticate your API requests.
Step 3: Extract Data from Okta
Use a programming language or script of your choice (such as Python, JavaScript, or CURL) to interact with Okta's APIs. Write a script to send HTTP GET requests to the relevant endpoints (e.g., `/api/v1/users` for user data). Ensure your script handles pagination if your data set is large.
Step 4: Transform Data into Required Format
Once you have retrieved the data from Okta, you'll likely need to transform it into a format compatible with Convex. This may involve reformatting JSON structures or cleaning up data fields. Use your script to process and prepare the data accordingly.
Step 5: Understand Convex's Data Ingestion Method
Investigate how Convex ingests data. This might involve understanding Convex’s API if available, or how it handles data imports. Ensure you know the data structure and format required by Convex for smooth ingestion.
Step 6: Write a Data Transfer Script for Convex
Develop a script to transfer data into Convex. This script will take the transformed data from step 4 and use Convex's API or other available method to upload the data. This might involve sending HTTP POST requests or uploading files via a command-line tool, depending on Convex’s capabilities.
Step 7: Verify Data Integrity and Consistency
After the data transfer is complete, verify the integrity and consistency of the data in Convex. Compare a sample of records between Okta and Convex to ensure they match. Check for any discrepancies or data loss and address any issues by adjusting your data extraction, transformation, or loading scripts.
By following these steps, you can efficiently move data from Okta to Convex without relying on third-party connectors or integrations, ensuring you maintain control over the data handling process.
