“Airbyte helped us accelerate our progress by years, compared to our competitors. We don’t need to worry about connectors and focus on creating value for our users instead of building infrastructure. That’s priceless. The time and energy saved allows us to disrupt and grow faster.”

Rupak Patel
"With Airbyte, we could just push a few buttons, allow API access, and bring all the data into Google BigQuery. By blending all the different marketing data sources, we can gain valuable insights."
How to Sync to Manually
Begin by accessing the Okta API to retrieve data. You will need to have administrator credentials for your Okta account. Navigate to the Okta Developer Console and generate an API token. This token will be used for authentication when making API requests to Okta.
Determine which data you need to extract from Okta. Common data types include users, groups, and apps. Review the Okta API documentation to identify the endpoints corresponding to the data you require, such as `/api/v1/users` for user data.
Write a script in a programming language of your choice (e.g., Python, Node.js) to interact with the Okta API. Use HTTP requests to fetch data. For example, in Python, you might use the `requests` library to send GET requests to Okta endpoints, passing the API token in the header for authentication.
Once data is fetched, parse the JSON response to extract relevant fields. Use data transformation techniques to match the schema of your MySQL database. For instance, convert data types and restructure hierarchical data into flat tables if necessary.
Set up your MySQL database to receive the data. Create tables with appropriate columns that correspond to the transformed data schema. Ensure that the database user has the necessary permissions to insert data into these tables.
Extend your script to include functionality for inserting data into MySQL. Use a database connector library (e.g., `mysql-connector-python` for Python) to connect to your MySQL database. Construct SQL `INSERT` statements to add the parsed data into the appropriate tables.
To keep your MySQL database updated, automate the script using a task scheduler. On Unix-like systems, you can use `cron` jobs, while Windows Task Scheduler can be used on Windows systems. Set a schedule based on your data needs, such as daily or weekly updates.
By following these steps, you can ensure direct data transfer from Okta to a MySQL destination without relying on third-party connectors or integrations.
