Chase Zieman

“Airbyte helped us accelerate our progress by years, compared to our competitors. We don’t need to worry about connectors and focus on creating value for our users instead of building infrastructure. That’s priceless. The time and energy saved allows us to disrupt and grow faster.”

Rupak Patel
"With Airbyte, we could just push a few buttons, allow API access, and bring all the data into Google BigQuery. By blending all the different marketing data sources, we can gain valuable insights."
How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Set Up AWS Environment
Begin by setting up your AWS environment. Ensure you have an AWS account with access to AWS Glue, S3, and any other necessary services. Configure your AWS CLI with the appropriate credentials to facilitate command-line interactions with AWS services.
Step 2: Configure Network Access
Ensure that your on-premise database (ORB) is accessible from AWS. This may involve setting up a VPN connection or AWS Direct Connect to securely extend your on-premises network to the AWS cloud. Confirm that network security groups and firewall rules allow access to the database from AWS.
Step 3: Create an S3 Bucket
In the AWS Management Console, create an S3 bucket where you will store the data from your ORB. Consider configuring the bucket's permissions to control access, and establish lifecycle policies if needed to manage data expiration and storage costs.
Step 4: Prepare the On-Premise Database
Prepare your on-premise database for data extraction by identifying the data you need to migrate. You may need to create export scripts or views to format the data appropriately for transfer. Ensure data integrity and consistency during extraction.
Step 5: Extract and Transfer Data to S3
Use the AWS CLI or SDK to transfer the data to S3. You can extract data from the ORB and write it directly to S3 using scripts or a data export tool that saves the data to a file, which is then uploaded to the S3 bucket. Use `aws s3 cp` for simple file uploads or `aws s3 sync` for larger data sets.
Step 6: Catalog Data with AWS Glue
Set up an AWS Glue Data Catalog to organize and manage your data. Create a Glue crawler to scan the data in your S3 bucket. The crawler will automatically populate the Glue Data Catalog with metadata, making your data easily searchable and queryable.
Step 7: Perform Data Transformation and Loading with AWS Glue
Use AWS Glue to perform any necessary data transformation. Create an AWS Glue job to process the data, transforming it as needed and loading it into a target format or another data store. Configure the job to use the Glue Data Catalog for schema information and define the transformations required.
By following these steps, you effectively move data from your on-premise database to AWS S3 using AWS Glue, without relying on third-party connectors or integrations.
