How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Understand Pendo Data Export Format
Before you begin, familiarize yourself with how to export data from Pendo. Typically, Pendo allows you to export data in formats like CSV or JSON. Access your Pendo account, navigate to the data you want to export, and choose an appropriate export option. Ensure you have the necessary permissions to perform data exports.
Step 2: Export Data from Pendo
Use the Pendo interface to export the desired data. Navigate to the relevant section (e.g., analytics, user data), and use the export function to download the data. Save the exported file in a secure and accessible location on your local machine or a designated server.
Step 3: Transform Data to JSON Format
If your exported data is not in JSON format, transform it accordingly. Use programming tools like Python or JavaScript to read the CSV file and convert it to JSON. This is necessary because DynamoDB primarily accepts JSON format for data ingestion. Ensure that the JSON structure aligns with the schema requirements of your DynamoDB table.
Step 4: Install and Configure AWS CLI
Install the AWS Command Line Interface (CLI) on your local machine if it isn’t already installed. Configure the CLI with your AWS credentials using the `aws configure` command. Input your AWS Access Key, Secret Key, region, and output format when prompted. This setup will allow you to interact with AWS services, including DynamoDB, directly from your command line.
Step 5: Create a DynamoDB Table
Log into your AWS Management Console and navigate to DynamoDB. Create a new table or choose an existing one that matches the structure of your Pendo data. Define the primary key (partition key and sort key, if necessary) that will uniquely identify each item in your table. Ensure that the table's attribute definitions correspond to the fields in your JSON data.
Step 6: Write a Script to Upload Data
Develop a script (using Python with Boto3, Node.js with AWS SDK, etc.) to upload the JSON data to DynamoDB. The script should read the JSON file, parse each item, and use the `put_item` or `batch_write_item` method to insert data into the DynamoDB table. Handle any errors or exceptions that may arise during the upload process.
Step 7: Verify Data Integrity
After uploading, verify that the data in DynamoDB matches the original data from Pendo. You can do this by querying the DynamoDB table using the AWS CLI, AWS SDK, or AWS Management Console. Check for discrepancies or errors and make adjustments to your script if necessary to ensure data integrity.
By following these steps, you can effectively transfer data from Pendo to DynamoDB without relying on third-party connectors or integrations.
