Chase Zieman

“Airbyte helped us accelerate our progress by years, compared to our competitors. We don’t need to worry about connectors and focus on creating value for our users instead of building infrastructure. That’s priceless. The time and energy saved allows us to disrupt and grow faster.”

Rupak Patel
"With Airbyte, we could just push a few buttons, allow API access, and bring all the data into Google BigQuery. By blending all the different marketing data sources, we can gain valuable insights."
How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Set Up Your SFTP Environment
Start by ensuring you have the necessary credentials and access rights to the SFTP server. Use a secure shell (SSH) client to connect to the SFTP server. Verify you can connect to the server by running a simple SFTP command like `sftp user@hostname` and navigate to the directory containing the files you want to transfer.
Step 2: Download Data from SFTP
Use the `sftp` command to download files from the SFTP server to a local directory on your machine. For example, use the `get` command within the SFTP session: `get /remote/path/to/file /local/path/to/file`. Repeat this for each file or use `mget` to download multiple files. Ensure all files are successfully downloaded and accessible locally.
Step 3: Prepare Data for Import
Once data is downloaded, ensure it is in a format acceptable for Convex. Convex typically supports JSON, CSV, and other structured data formats. If necessary, convert your files to a supported format using scripts or command-line tools such as Python, awk, or sed. Validate the data structure and content integrity post-conversion.
Step 4: Configure Convex Environment
If you haven’t done so already, set up your Convex environment. This involves creating or accessing your Convex project and ensuring you have the necessary permissions to write data. Familiarize yourself with the Convex CLI or API, which you will use to import the data.
Step 5: Write a Data Import Script
Create a script in a language like Python or Node.js that uses the Convex SDK or API to upload data. The script should read the prepared data files and use API calls to insert the data into Convex. Handle errors and exceptions in your script to ensure data integrity and provide useful feedback if something goes wrong.
Step 6: Execute the Import Script
Run your script to import the data into Convex. Monitor the process closely for any errors or warnings. Ensure that the script is using appropriate authentication mechanisms to securely connect to the Convex database. Verify that all data is accurately transferred and stored in Convex as intended.
Step 7: Verify Data Integrity and Clean Up
Once the import process is complete, verify the integrity and completeness of the data in Convex by querying the database. Compare a sample of the uploaded data against the original files to ensure accuracy. After verification, clean up your local environment by removing temporary files and closing any open connections to the SFTP server.
This step-by-step guide should help you move data from SFTP to Convex without relying on third-party connectors or integrations.
