How to Sync to Manually

Step 1: Understand SonarCloud Data

Begin by reviewing the types of data you wish to export from SonarCloud. Determine the format, such as CSV or JSON, and the specific datasets, like code quality metrics, issues, or project details, you need for analysis in Firebolt. Familiarize yourself with SonarCloud's API documentation to understand how to access and export this data programmatically.

Log in to your SonarCloud account and navigate to account settings to generate an API token. This token will authenticate your requests to SonarCloud's API. Ensure you have the necessary permissions to access the data you intend to export.

Use a scripting language like Python to write a script that makes HTTP requests to SonarCloud's API endpoints. Use the API token for authentication. The script should iterate over the necessary endpoints to fetch the data, handle pagination if required, and store the exported data locally in files (e.g., CSV or JSON).

Once the data is exported, inspect the files to ensure they are complete and correctly formatted. Perform any necessary data transformation, cleaning, or normalization. This may involve converting JSON files to CSV format, handling missing values, or restructuring data to align with Firebolt’s schema requirements.

Log in to your Firebolt account and create a new database or table where you intend to import the data. Define the table schema based on the structure of your prepared data. Ensure the schema matches the data types and structure to avoid errors during the import process.

Firebolt provides a SQL interface that you can use to upload data directly. Use SQL COPY statements to load data from your local machine to Firebolt. Ensure your CSV or other file formats are accessible to Firebolt by uploading them to a location that Firebolt can access, such as an AWS S3 bucket, and point the COPY command to this location.

After importing the data, run a series of SQL queries to validate the integrity and completeness of the data in Firebolt. Check for consistency with the original data from SonarCloud, ensuring that key metrics and figures are accurately represented in the new environment. Make any necessary adjustments and document the import process for future reference.

By following these steps, you can move data from SonarCloud to Firebolt without relying on third-party connectors or integrations, ensuring a controlled and customized data transfer process.
