How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Register for Strava API Access
First, you need to register your application with Strava to obtain API credentials. Go to the Strava Developers website, create an account if you haven't already, and register a new application. This will provide you with a Client ID and Client Secret.
Step 2: Authenticate and Obtain Access Token
Use the OAuth 2.0 protocol to authenticate and get an access token. Direct your browser to `https://www.strava.com/oauth/authorize` with the appropriate query parameters including your Client ID, redirect URI, and scope. Once the user authorizes, you'll receive a code in the redirect URI, which you can exchange for an access token by making a POST request to `https://www.strava.com/oauth/token` with your Client ID, Client Secret, and the received code.
Step 3: Fetch Data from Strava API
With the access token, you can now make authorized requests to the Strava API to fetch data. Use HTTP GET requests to endpoints like `https://www.strava.com/api/v3/athlete/activities` to retrieve your activity data. Parse the JSON response to extract the necessary information.
Step 4: Set Up MySQL Database
Ensure you have a MySQL server set up and running. Create a database if you haven't already. Define tables that will store the data retrieved from Strava. For example, you might have a table named `activities` with columns such as `activity_id`, `name`, `distance`, `moving_time`, and `elapsed_time`.
Step 5: Transform Data for MySQL Compatibility
Convert the data fetched from Strava into a format compatible with your MySQL schema. This might involve restructuring JSON data into flat records that can be inserted into database tables. Ensure the data types align with those expected by your MySQL database schema.
Step 6: Connect to MySQL Database
Use a MySQL client library in your preferred programming language to connect to your MySQL database. For Python, you might use `mysql-connector-python`, while for Node.js, you could use `mysql2`. Establish a connection using the database credentials.
Step 7: Insert Data into MySQL
