How to load data from SurveyCTO to TiDB

Learn how to use Airbyte to synchronize your SurveyCTO data into TiDB within minutes.

Building your pipeline or Using Airbyte

Airbyte is the only open source solution empowering data teams  to meet all their growing custom business demands in the new AI era.

Building in-house pipelines

Bespoke pipelines are:
  • Inconsistent and inaccurate data
  • Laborious and expensive
  • Brittle and inflexible
Furthermore, you will need to build and maintain Y x Z pipelines with Y sources and Z destinations to cover all your needs.

After Airbyte

Airbyte connections are:
  • Reliable and accurate
  • Extensible and scalable for all your needs
  • Deployed and governed your way
All your pipelines in minutes, however custom they are, thanks to Airbyte’s connector marketplace and AI Connector Builder.

Start syncing with Airbyte in 3 easy steps within 10 minutes

Set up a SurveyCTO connector in Airbyte

Connect to or one of 400+ pre-built or 10,000+ custom connectors through simple account authentication.

Set up TiDB for your extracted SurveyCTO data

Select where you want to import data from your source to. You can also choose other cloud data warehouses, databases, data lakes, vector databases, or any other supported Airbyte destinations.

Configure the SurveyCTO to TiDB in Airbyte

This includes selecting the data you want to extract - streams and columns -, the sync frequency, where in the destination you want that data to be loaded.

What sets Airbyte Apart

Modern GenAI Workflows

Streamline AI workflows with Airbyte: load unstructured data into vector stores like Pinecone, Weaviate, and Milvus. Supports RAG transformations with LangChain chunking and embeddings from OpenAI, Cohere, etc., all in one operation.

Move Large Volumes, Fast

Quickly get up and running with a 5-minute setup that enables both incremental and full refreshes for databases of any size, seamlessly scaling to handle large data volumes. Our optimized architecture overcomes performance bottlenecks, ensuring efficient data synchronization even as your datasets grow from gigabytes to petabytes.

An Extensible Open-Source Standard

More than 1,000 developers contribute to Airbyte’s connectors, different interfaces (UI, API, Terraform Provider, Python Library), and integrations with the rest of the stack. Airbyte’s AI Connector Builder lets you edit or add new connectors in minutes.

Full Control & Security

Airbyte secures your data with cloud-hosted, self-hosted or hybrid deployment options. Single Sign-On (SSO) and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) ensure only authorized users have access with the right permissions. Airbyte acts as a HIPAA conduit and supports compliance with CCPA, GDPR, and SOC2.

Fully Featured & Integrated

Airbyte automates schema evolution for seamless data flow, and utilizes efficient Change Data Capture (CDC) for real-time updates. Select only the columns you need, and leverage our dbt integration for powerful data transformations.

Enterprise Support with SLAs

Airbyte Self-Managed Enterprise comes with dedicated support and guaranteed service level agreements (SLAs), ensuring that your data movement infrastructure remains reliable and performant, and expert assistance is available when needed.

How to Sync to Manually

Step 1: Export Data from SurveyCTO

Begin by logging into your SurveyCTO account and navigate to the "Export" section. Select the specific survey data you want to export. Choose a suitable file format for export, such as CSV or Excel, which can be easily manipulated and imported into TiDB later. Download the exported file to your local machine.

Step 2: Prepare Data for Import

Open the exported file using a spreadsheet application like Excel or a text editor for CSV files. Review the data to ensure consistency and correctness. Clean any unnecessary columns or rows and make sure the data types (e.g., integers, strings, dates) are consistent with the schema you plan to use in TiDB.

Step 3: Install TiDB and Client Tools

If TiDB is not already installed, download and install the TiDB server and client tools on your machine or server. You can follow the official TiDB installation documentation for guidance. Ensure that you have access to the `tidb-server` and `tidb-client` for database operations.

Step 4: Set Up TiDB Schema

Access your TiDB server using a client tool like `mysql` or `tidb-client`. Create a database schema that matches the structure of your SurveyCTO data. Use SQL commands to define tables, columns, and data types that mirror the cleaned data from your export file.

Step 5: Convert CSV to SQL Insert Statements

Use a scripting language (such as Python, Perl, or Bash) to convert your cleaned CSV data into SQL `INSERT` statements. If using Python, libraries like `csv` can be helpful to read the file, and string formatting can assist in constructing the SQL commands. Ensure the SQL statements align with the TiDB schema created in the previous step.

Step 6: Import Data into TiDB

Execute the generated SQL `INSERT` statements using the TiDB client tool. You can do this by redirecting a file containing the SQL commands to the client tool (e.g., `tidb-client < insert_statements.sql`). Monitor the process for any errors that may arise due to data type mismatches or constraints.

Step 7: Verify Data Integrity

After importing the data, perform a verification step to ensure data integrity. Use SQL queries to check row counts and sample data in TiDB. Compare these results with the original data from SurveyCTO to confirm that the import was successful and complete. Make any necessary corrections if discrepancies are found.

These steps will allow you to manually move data from SurveyCTO to TiDB without relying on third-party connectors or integrations.
