Say hello to octavia-cli!

At Airbyte we’re making data integration simple and accessible for everyone. And until now, users of all backgrounds are able to get Airbyte up and running in just a matter of minutes using our application UI. However, in the spirit of making data portability as seamless as possible for both non-technical and technical users, we decided to build a CLI. Now users can perform scripting and automation around their data integrations to streamline their data infrastructure.Say hello to octavia-cli!

What is octavia-cli?

octavia-cli is a command-line interface to help manage data integration configurations in a declarative manner, using YAML files. It provides flexibility and freedom to operators integrating Airbyte into their data infrastructure.

Octavia-cli enables users to:

generate YAML files that can be version controlled in Git
leverage any scripting or templating tool to generate configurations dynamically for creation of data sources, destinations, and connections
deploy configurations on multiple Airbyte instances, in order to manage several Airbyte environments
integrate into a CI workflow to automate the deployment of data integration configurations

We’ve also included secure resource management and secrets management as part of this release. Before updating a remote resources, users can validate changes using the octavia apply command. They can also map environment variables to configuration values using our secret management feature.

What’s next?

We will continue developing the octavia-cli in upcoming months to grow its feature set and stability. Here’s what to expect from us:

importing existing Airbyte resources into an octavia project
declaring transformations on connections managed by octavia-cli
deleting Airbyte resources from octavia-cli
making YAML configurations more readable
improving error handling and readability to users
