Chase Zieman

“Airbyte helped us accelerate our progress by years, compared to our competitors. We don’t need to worry about connectors and focus on creating value for our users instead of building infrastructure. That’s priceless. The time and energy saved allows us to disrupt and grow faster.”

Rupak Patel
"With Airbyte, we could just push a few buttons, allow API access, and bring all the data into Google BigQuery. By blending all the different marketing data sources, we can gain valuable insights."
How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Understand Orb Data Structure
Before you begin, thoroughly understand the data structure and format within the orb system. Identify the data types, storage format (e.g., JSON, XML, CSV), and any relevant metadata. This knowledge will guide the extraction and transformation processes.
Step 2: Set Up Kafka Environment
Install and configure Apache Kafka on your server. This includes setting up the Kafka broker, creating necessary topics, and configuring the Zookeeper service for coordination. Ensure that Kafka is running and accessible from the environment where the orb data resides.
Step 3: Develop a Data Extraction Script
Create a custom script or program to extract data from the orb system. This script should connect to the orb, query the necessary data, and handle any authentication or API requirements. Use programming languages like Python, Java, or a language compatible with your orb system.
Step 4: Transform Data to Kafka-Compatible Format
Once data is extracted, transform it into a format compatible with Kafka, typically a serialized format like JSON or Avro. This step might involve data cleaning and restructuring to ensure compatibility with Kafka's serialization requirements.
Step 5: Implement Kafka Producer
Develop a Kafka producer application to send the transformed data to Kafka. Utilize Kafka client libraries available for various programming languages to establish a connection to your Kafka broker and send messages to the appropriate Kafka topic.
Step 6: Test Data Flow
Before deploying the solution in a production environment, conduct thorough testing. Verify that data is being correctly extracted, transformed, and published to Kafka. Validate the integrity and completeness of the data within Kafka and troubleshoot any issues.
Step 7: Automate and Monitor the Process
Once testing is successful, automate the data extraction, transformation, and publishing processes using cron jobs, scripts, or a task scheduler. Additionally, implement logging and monitoring to track the data flow, detect errors, and ensure the system runs smoothly over time.
By following these steps, you can efficiently move data from an orb system to Apache Kafka without relying on third-party connectors or integrations, maintaining control over the process and ensuring data integrity.
