How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Export Data from Shopify
Begin by logging into your Shopify admin panel. Navigate to the "Orders" or "Products" section, depending on which data you want to export. Click on "Export" at the top-right corner. Choose the format (CSV is recommended) and select the range of data you want to export (all data or specific selections). Download the file to your local machine.
Step 2: Review and Clean the Exported Data
Open the exported CSV file with a spreadsheet application like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Review the data to ensure all necessary information is included and correctly formatted. Clean the data by removing any unnecessary columns or rows and correcting any formatting issues, such as date or currency formats.
Step 3: Prepare Convex Database
Set up your Convex database if you havent already. Define the schema by creating tables that match the structure of your Shopify data. Ensure that the tables have columns corresponding to the fields in your CSV file. This will facilitate a smooth import process.
Step 4: Transform Data to Match Convex Schema
If necessary, transform the data in your CSV file to match the Convex table schema. This could involve renaming columns, changing data types, or splitting/combining fields. Use spreadsheet functions to perform these transformations efficiently. Ensure that the data types (such as integers, strings, dates) align with the Convex database requirements.
Step 5: Convert CSV to SQL Statements
Convert the cleaned and transformed CSV data into SQL `INSERT` statements. This can be done manually or by using a script or tool that takes CSV data and outputs SQL commands. Each row of your CSV will correspond to an `INSERT` statement in SQL, specifying the target table and the values for each column.
Step 6: Manually Insert Data into Convex
Access your Convex database through a command-line interface or a database management tool that allows direct SQL execution. Execute the SQL `INSERT` statements generated in the previous step. This will manually insert your Shopify data into the Convex database, populating the tables with the relevant information.
Step 7: Verify Data Integrity
Once the data has been imported, perform a thorough check to verify its integrity. Query the Convex database to ensure that all records have been correctly inserted and that the data matches the original Shopify export. Check for any discrepancies or errors and correct them as needed. This step ensures the data migration was successful and complete.
By following these steps, you can effectively move data from Shopify to Convex without relying on third-party connectors or integrations.
