Capacity Based Pricing: How it Works

Back in January we introduced capacity-based pricing, and we’re now seeing the game changing effect it has on data movement costs - especially for scaling businesses.

Most data movement solutions today are priced based on the amount of data you are moving. But we know that not all data is equally valuable, and volumes of data moved can be very unpredictable.

For our Enterprise (Flex & Self-managed) and Pro plans, instead of pricing by volume, we use a capacity-based model. We find this to be more predictable for customers operating at scale. We look at the number of pipelines you need and how often they need to run. These metrics determine how much capacity you need, measured in units we call Data Workers. An Airbyte Data Worker can run approximately 3 syncs at once.

Simply put, it comes down to the amount of data your organization needs to move at the same time. If you need to move a lot of data at the same time, you will need more capacity. If you don’t need to move that much data at the same time, you’ll need fewer Data Workers. You can add Data Workers based on your needs.

A note on Volume-based pricing:

For some individuals and smaller teams, volume-based pricing still works for their needs. This is why our Standard plan still uses volume as its key metric for determining price.

Choose the right plan based on your team’s unique needs.
