The Airbyte Agent CLI tool is a single Go binary that brings Airbyte Agents to your terminal. It can be executed from a shell, script, or CI job. Basically, from any system that can execute shell commands. The CLI lets you list available workspaces and connectors in your Airbyte instance, add new connectors, inspect their schemas, and execute actions like reads, searches, creates, and updates across your systems.

Getting Started

Installation is as easy as one command:

curl -fsSL https://airbyte.ai/install.sh | bash

Or via Homebrew:

brew install airbytehq/tap/airbyte-agent-cli

Authentication and command execution are the next steps:

airbyte-agent login

airbyte-agent workspaces list

Most commands take JSON input and return JSON output, so it integrates seamlessly into existing scripts and automation tools.

The part I like most about the CLI

Schema discovery lets you explore available commands before use:

airbyte-agent schema connectors executeThe command returns information about the parameters for the command, as well as the schemas for the request and response payloads for the HTTP requests made by the CLI. This allows an agent to explore and learn about a command's structure before it's called.

Where the CLI fits in

The CLI is another way to interact with Airbyte Agents, along with the SDK, Agents API, and MCP. It's a non-Python alternative to the SDK, and a higher-level interface than the Agents API. If your agent lives in the shell, this is where you'll find the most natural fit. Depending on your use case, one of these interfaces might be a better fit than the others.

If you're setting up Airbyte Agents for an existing agent, the easiest way to get started is to use the install script. It will bundle the Airbyte Agent skill for your agent with the CLI tool so that it has everything it needs to get started.
