Observable access is the companion property. The system records each read, search, and write as an event that links the action to an identity, a target, and a time.

Every agent request carries two identities: the agent's own and the human user it acts for. Policy evaluates each independently. Is this agent allowed to use this agent connector at all? Does the delegating user have rights to the records the query would return? Both checks must pass.

An agent serving an entire sales team should still return only the requesting rep's accounts, because the rep's authority sets the record limit. That last field matters more than it looks. When the system logs both denials and approvals, the log becomes a detection surface. Teams can alert on bursts of denied requests against entities the agent has never needed, which can signal prompt injection or misconfiguration. The transcript records what the agent said; the access log records what it reached and what it changed.

Architecture determines whether teams can assemble this log. A separate MCP connection per tool means a separate log format and a separate retention policy for each one, and teams have to stitch an incident timeline together by hand. How Do You Govern Agent Actions and Write Operations?

Separate reads from writes at the architectural level. A read-only context layer guarantees that retrieval can never mutate a source system, no matter what a malicious prompt tricks the model into requesting. Every create, update, or delete instead travels through a direct API request, which gives each write its own policy check at the moment of execution rather than at connection setup.

High-impact writes get an approval gate on top of them. AI SDR agents that send outbound email and update customer relationship management (CRM) records are a common example: an errant bulk send or a mass field overwrite is exactly the incident a human should approve before it happens. The same applies to deleting resources anywhere.
