How to load data from Paypal Transaction to Cumul.io

Learn how to use Airbyte to synchronize your Paypal Transaction data into Cumul.io within minutes.

TL;DR

This can be done by building a data pipeline manually, usually a Python script (you can leverage a tool as Apache Airflow for this). This process can take more than a full week of development. Or it can be done in minutes on Airbyte in three easy steps:

  1. set up Paypal Transaction as a source connector (using Auth, or usually an API key)
  2. set up Cumul.io as a destination connector
  3. define which data you want to transfer and how frequently

You can choose to self-host the pipeline using Airbyte Open Source or have it managed for you with Airbyte Cloud.

This tutorial’s purpose is to show you how.

What is Paypal Transaction

A technology-based financial service company, PayPal facilitates online payments between customers and merchants worldwide. The PayPal platform offers secure, affordable, and convenient online financial services, making e-commerce transactions easy and secure for millions of consumers and merchants globally. It enables users to connect to various data sources, including databases, spreadsheets, and APIs, and visualize the data in real-time. The platform offers a drag-and-drop interface that makes it easy to create custom dashboards and reports without any coding skills. Users can also embed the dashboards and reports into their own applications or websites. Cumul.io provides a range of features, including data filtering, drill-down capabilities, and collaboration tools, making it a powerful tool for data analysis and decision-making.

Prerequisites

  1. A Paypal Transaction account to transfer your customer data automatically from.
  2. A Cumul.io account.
  3. An active Airbyte Cloud account, or you can also choose to use Airbyte Open Source locally. You can follow the instructions to set up Airbyte on your system using docker-compose.

Airbyte is an open-source data integration platform that consolidates and streamlines the process of extracting and loading data from multiple data sources to data warehouses. It offers pre-built connectors, including Paypal Transaction and Cumul.io, for seamless data migration.

When using Airbyte to move data from Paypal Transaction to Cumul.io, it extracts data from Paypal Transaction using the source connector, converts it into a format Cumul.io can ingest using the provided schema, and then loads it into Cumul.io via the destination connector. This allows businesses to leverage their Paypal Transaction data for advanced analytics and insights within Cumul.io, simplifying the ETL process and saving significant time and resources.

Step 1: Set up Paypal Transaction as a source connector

1. Open the Airbyte platform and navigate to the "Sources" tab on the left-hand side of the screen.
2. Click on the "Add Source" button and select "PayPal Transaction" from the list of available connectors.
3. Enter a name for the connector and click on the "Next" button.
4. Enter your PayPal API credentials, including the Client ID and Secret, in the appropriate fields.
5. Click on the "Test" button to ensure that the credentials are valid and that the connection to PayPal is successful.
6. Once the test is successful, click on the "Save" button to save the connector and add it to your list of sources.
7. You can now use the connector to extract data from your PayPal transactions and integrate it with other data sources in Airbyte.
8. To configure the connector, you can select the specific data fields that you want to extract from your PayPal transactions and set up any necessary filters or transformations.
9. Once the connector is configured, you can schedule regular data syncs to ensure that your data is always up-to-date and accurate.

Step 2: Set up Cumul.io as a destination connector

1. First, navigate to the Cumul.io destination connector on Airbyte's website.
2. Click on the "Get Started" button to begin the setup process.
3. Enter your Cumul.io API key and secret key in the appropriate fields.
4. Next, select the data source you want to connect to Cumul.io from the list of available sources.
5. Follow the prompts to configure the data source settings, such as selecting the tables or fields you want to sync.
6. Once you have configured the data source settings, click on the "Test" button to ensure that the connection is working properly.
7. If the test is successful, click on the "Save" button to save your configuration settings.
8. You can now start syncing data from your selected data source to Cumul.io by clicking on the "Sync Now" button.
9. You can also schedule regular syncs by setting up a sync frequency in the connector settings.
10. Congratulations! You have successfully connected your Cumul.io destination connector on Airbyte and can now start visualizing your data in Cumul.io.

Step 3: Set up a connection to sync your Paypal Transaction data to Cumul.io

Once you've successfully connected Paypal Transaction as a data source and Cumul.io as a destination in Airbyte, you can set up a data pipeline between them with the following steps:

  1. Create a new connection: On the Airbyte dashboard, navigate to the 'Connections' tab and click the '+ New Connection' button.
  2. Choose your source: Select Paypal Transaction from the dropdown list of your configured sources.
  3. Select your destination: Choose Cumul.io from the dropdown list of your configured destinations.
  4. Configure your sync: Define the frequency of your data syncs based on your business needs. Airbyte allows both manual and automatic scheduling for your data refreshes.
  5. Select the data to sync: Choose the specific Paypal Transaction objects you want to import data from towards Cumul.io. You can sync all data or select specific tables and fields.
  6. Select the sync mode for your streams: Choose between full refreshes or incremental syncs (with deduplication if you want), and this for all streams or at the stream level. Incremental is only available for streams that have a primary cursor.
  7. Test your connection: Click the 'Test Connection' button to make sure that your setup works. If the connection test is successful, save your configuration.
  8. Start the sync: If the test passes, click 'Set Up Connection'. Airbyte will start moving data from Paypal Transaction to Cumul.io according to your settings.

Remember, Airbyte keeps your data in sync at the frequency you determine, ensuring your Cumul.io data warehouse is always up-to-date with your Paypal Transaction data.
