How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Understand Your Data Requirements
Begin by clearly defining the data you need to move from Looker to Teradata. Identify the Looker reports or dashboards you will export, including the specific fields, filters, and data ranges required. This step is critical to ensure you only extract the necessary data.
Step 2: Export Data from Looker
Use Looker's built-in export functionality to download the data. You can export data from Looker in various formats, such as CSV or Excel. Navigate to the report or dashboard, and use the export option to download the data to your local machine.
Step 3: Prepare Your Data for Teradata
Once you have your data exported, you may need to format or clean it to ensure compatibility with Teradata. This could involve data transformations, such as ensuring date formats are consistent or removing any special characters that might interfere with the import process.
Step 4: Set Up Teradata Environment
Ensure that your Teradata environment is ready to receive the data. This includes creating the necessary tables or schemas that will store the imported data. Use Teradata SQL to create tables that match the structure of the data you have exported from Looker.
Step 5: Transfer Data to Teradata
Use Teradata's built-in utilities to load the data. One common utility is the Teradata FastLoad or TPT (Teradata Parallel Transporter), which helps in efficiently importing large volumes of data. Prepare your CSV or Excel file for loading and use the appropriate command to begin the transfer.
Step 6: Validate Data in Teradata
After the data has been loaded, perform data validation to ensure it was imported correctly. Run SQL queries to check for data consistency, such as row counts and data integrity, comparing with the original data from Looker.
Step 7: Automate the Process
If this is a recurring task, consider writing scripts or using automation tools to streamline the process. You can use shell scripts or SQL scripts to automate data export from Looker, data cleaning, and loading to Teradata, ensuring that the process is repeatable with minimal manual intervention.
By following these steps, you can efficiently move data from Looker to Teradata without relying on third-party connectors or integrations.
