How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Export Data from SurveyMonkey
Begin by logging into your SurveyMonkey account. Navigate to the survey from which you want to export data. Click on "Analyze Results" and then select "Export Results." Choose a format that is compatible with further processing, such as CSV or Excel. Download the file to your local system.
Step 2: Prepare the Data for BigQuery
Open the exported file using a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Ensure that the data is clean and well-structured. This includes checking for missing values, correcting any formatting issues, and ensuring that the headers and data types are consistent with the schema you plan to use in BigQuery.
Step 3: Access Google Cloud Console
Log into your Google Cloud Platform account. If you dont have one, create an account and set up a project. Navigate to the Google Cloud Console and open the BigQuery web interface.
Step 4: Create a Dataset in BigQuery
Within the BigQuery interface, create a new dataset to store your SurveyMonkey data. Click on your project, select "Create Dataset," and provide a suitable dataset ID. Configure any necessary dataset settings, such as data location and expiration.
Step 5: Define a Table Schema in BigQuery
Before uploading, define a table schema that matches the structure of your SurveyMonkey data. This includes defining each column's name, type, and mode (e.g., NULLABLE, REQUIRED). You can do this manually in the BigQuery interface or by writing a JSON schema file.
Step 6: Upload Data to BigQuery
In the BigQuery interface, navigate to the dataset you created. Click on "Create Table" and choose "Upload" as the source. Select the file format (CSV or Excel) you exported from SurveyMonkey. Upload the file from your local system, and map the columns to the table schema you defined. Configure additional options as needed, such as delimiter or header row details, and initiate the upload.
Step 7: Verify and Query the Data
Once the upload is complete, verify the data by running simple queries in BigQuery. Check for data integrity and ensure that all fields are accurately represented. Test a few queries to confirm that the data is correctly organized and accessible for your analytical needs.
By following these steps, you can manually transfer data from SurveyMonkey to BigQuery without relying on third-party connectors or integrations.
