How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Export SurveyMonkey Data
Begin by logging into your SurveyMonkey account. Navigate to the survey whose data you wish to export. Use the export feature to download your survey results. Choose a format that is compatible with Amazon Redshift, such as CSV. Save the exported file to your local system.
Step 2: Set Up Amazon S3 Bucket
Log into your AWS Management Console and access the S3 service. Create a new bucket or use an existing one. This S3 bucket will be used as an intermediary storage location for your SurveyMonkey data before loading it into Redshift. Ensure your bucket has the appropriate permissions for reading and writing data.
Step 3: Upload Data to Amazon S3
Upload the CSV file you downloaded from SurveyMonkey to the S3 bucket you created or selected. Use the AWS S3 console or AWS CLI to perform the upload. Ensure that the file is correctly placed in your bucket and note the file path.
Step 4: Prepare Amazon Redshift
Set up or access your Amazon Redshift cluster. Ensure your cluster is running and accessible. Create a table schema within Redshift that matches the structure of your SurveyMonkey data. Use SQL commands in the Redshift Query Editor to define the table with appropriate data types and constraints.
Step 5: Set Up IAM Role and Permissions
Create an IAM role in AWS with permissions to access your S3 bucket. Attach the AmazonS3ReadOnlyAccess policy to this role. Then, associate this IAM role with your Redshift cluster to allow Redshift to access the data stored in your S3 bucket.
Step 6: Load Data into Redshift
Use the COPY command in Redshift to load the data from S3 into your Redshift table. This SQL command should specify the S3 file path, your IAM role, and any necessary formatting options (such as CSV format and delimiter). Execute the COPY command using the Redshift Query Editor.
Step 7: Verify and Clean Data
After loading, verify the data in your Redshift table to ensure it matches your expectations. Run queries to check for data integrity, completeness, and any potential issues. Clean and transform the data as necessary using SQL commands to prepare it for analysis or reporting.
By following these steps, you can manually transfer data from SurveyMonkey to Amazon Redshift without relying on third-party connectors.
