How to load data from Mailchimp to Convex

Learn how to use Airbyte to synchronize your Mailchimp data into Convex within minutes.

Building your pipeline or Using Airbyte

Airbyte is the only open source solution empowering data teams  to meet all their growing custom business demands in the new AI era.

Building in-house pipelines

Bespoke pipelines are:
  • Inconsistent and inaccurate data
  • Laborious and expensive
  • Brittle and inflexible
Furthermore, you will need to build and maintain Y x Z pipelines with Y sources and Z destinations to cover all your needs.

After Airbyte

Airbyte connections are:
  • Reliable and accurate
  • Extensible and scalable for all your needs
  • Deployed and governed your way
All your pipelines in minutes, however custom they are, thanks to Airbyte’s connector marketplace and AI Connector Builder.

How to Sync to Manually

Step 1: Export Data from Mailchimp

Start by logging into your Mailchimp account. Navigate to the "Audience" tab and select the audience list you wish to export. Click on "Manage Audience" and choose "Export Audience." Mailchimp will compile your data into a CSV file, which you can then download to your local machine.

Step 2: Prepare Data for Import

Once you have your CSV file, open it using a spreadsheet application like Excel or Google Sheets. Review the data to ensure it is clean and organized. Remove any unnecessary columns or rows, and make sure all fields are correctly labeled and formatted to match Convex's data requirements.

Step 3: Set Up Convex Environment

Log into your Convex account or create one if you haven't already. Set up the necessary database schema where your Mailchimp data will be imported. Define tables and fields that match the structure of your cleaned CSV file, ensuring that there are no mismatches in data types.

Step 4: Script the Data Import Process

Write a script in a programming language of your choice (such as Python or JavaScript) to read data from the CSV file and insert it into your Convex database. Use libraries like `csv` in Python or `fs` in Node.js for reading CSV files. Ensure your script handles any data transformations required to match the Convex schema.

Step 5: Authenticate and Connect to Convex

Within your script, establish a connection to your Convex database using the appropriate authentication method provided by Convex. This typically involves using API keys or tokens to securely access your database environment.

Step 6: Execute the Data Transfer

Run your script to begin transferring data from the CSV file to Convex. Monitor the process for any errors or data mismatches. Ensure that each record is accurately inserted into the Convex database, logging any discrepancies for later review and correction.

Step 7: Verify Data Integrity

Once the import process is complete, log into your Convex account and manually verify that the data has been correctly imported. Check for completeness and accuracy by comparing a sample of records against the original CSV file. Make any necessary adjustments or rerun the import with corrected data if needed.

Following these steps will help you successfully transfer your data from Mailchimp to Convex without using third-party connectors or integrations.
