Predictable, straightforward pricing model that simplified budgeting and significantly reduced overall spend

Chase Zieman

“Airbyte helped us accelerate our progress by years, compared to our competitors. We don’t need to worry about connectors and focus on creating value for our users instead of building infrastructure. That’s priceless. The time and energy saved allows us to disrupt and grow faster.”

Rupak Patel
"With Airbyte, we could just push a few buttons, allow API access, and bring all the data into Google BigQuery. By blending all the different marketing data sources, we can gain valuable insights."
How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Export Data from Mixpanel
Begin by exporting the data from Mixpanel. You can do this by leveraging Mixpanel's Export API. Authenticate your API request using your API Secret Key and specify the data range and events you wish to export. The API will return a JSON format dataset which you can then download and save locally.
Step 2: Parse the Exported JSON Data
Once you have the JSON file, parse the data to transform it into a format suitable for DynamoDB. You can use a scripting language like Python to read the JSON file and extract the necessary fields. Ensure that the data complies with DynamoDB's data types and structure requirements.
Step 3: Set Up AWS SDK and Configure Credentials
Install the AWS SDK for your programming language of choice (e.g., Boto3 for Python). Configure your AWS credentials to allow access to your DynamoDB instance. You can do this by setting environment variables, using the AWS credentials file, or using IAM roles if you are running the script in an AWS environment.
Step 4: Create DynamoDB Tables
Before importing the data, create the necessary DynamoDB tables that will store the Mixpanel data. Define the primary key and the table's schema based on how you intend to query the data. You can use the AWS Management Console, AWS CLI, or the AWS SDK to create the tables.
Step 5: Transform and Batch Data for Insertion
Transform the parsed data into DynamoDB items. AWS DynamoDB has a limit on the write capacity and the size of each item, so batch the data accordingly. Each batch can contain up to 25 items and must not exceed 16 MB in total size. Ensure that your data transformation respects these constraints.
Step 6: Insert Data into DynamoDB
Use the AWS SDK to batch write the transformed data into DynamoDB. Utilize the `batch_write_item` method for efficient insertion of multiple items. Handle any errors that might occur during the write operations, such as provisioned throughput exceeded, by implementing retries or exponential backoff strategies.
Step 7: Verify Data Integrity and Consistency
After the data has been inserted, verify the integrity and consistency of the data in DynamoDB. You can do this by querying the DynamoDB tables and comparing samples of the data with the original Mixpanel data. Ensure that all expected records are present and no data has been altered during the transfer process.
By following these steps, you can efficiently move data from Mixpanel to DynamoDB without relying on third-party connectors or integrations.
