How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Export Data from Orb
Begin by exporting the data you need from Orb. Orb typically offers data export functionality through its interface, allowing you to download data as CSV or JSON files. Navigate to the data export section in Orb, select the data sets you wish to export, and download them to your local machine.
Step 2: Prepare the Data for ClickHouse
Once you have the exported data, inspect the files to ensure they are properly formatted for import into ClickHouse. This includes checking for consistent delimiters if using CSV, ensuring JSON structure is valid, and verifying that the data types align with what you plan to use in ClickHouse.
Step 3: Set Up ClickHouse Server
If you haven't already, install and set up a ClickHouse server. This involves downloading the latest ClickHouse package for your operating system and following the installation instructions. Once installed, start the ClickHouse server and ensure it's running properly.
Step 4: Create a ClickHouse Database and Table
Use the ClickHouse client to create a new database and table where you'll import the data. You can do this by running SQL queries via the command-line interface. Define the table schema in ClickHouse to match the data structure you're importing from Orb, specifying appropriate data types for each column.
Step 5: Transform Data if Necessary
Before importing, you may need to transform the data to match the ClickHouse schema, especially if there are discrepancies in data types or formats. This can be done using scripting languages like Python or tools like awk and sed for CSV files. Save the transformed data into a new file.
Step 6: Use the ClickHouse Client for Data Import
Utilize the ClickHouse client to import your data file into the newly created table. This involves using the `INSERT INTO` SQL command with the `FORMAT` option to specify the format of your data file (e.g., CSV, JSONEachRow). For example:
```
clickhouse-client --query="INSERT INTO database_name.table_name FORMAT CSV" < /path/to/your/file.csv
```
This command reads the data file and inserts it directly into the ClickHouse table.
Step 7: Verify and Validate Data Import
After importing, run queries on the ClickHouse table to verify that the data has been imported correctly. Check for any discrepancies or errors, and ensure that all records from the original Orb export are present and correctly formatted in ClickHouse. Use SQL queries to perform data validation and correctness checks.
By following these steps, you can effectively move data from Orb to ClickHouse without the use of third-party connectors or integrations.
