How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Export Data from Source Database
Begin by exporting the data from your source database to a flat file format like CSV or TSV. You can use SQL commands such as `COPY` in PostgreSQL to export tables or query results to a file. Ensure that the file is stored in a location accessible by the ClickHouse server.
Step 2: Prepare Your Data for Import
Review the exported data files to ensure they adhere to ClickHouse's format requirements. Check for issues such as proper delimiter usage, consistent data types, and correct escaping of special characters. Adjust any discrepancies to prevent import errors.
Step 3: Set Up ClickHouse Environment
If not already set up, install ClickHouse on your server. Make sure the ClickHouse server is running and accessible. Configure the ClickHouse instance according to your data requirements, such as defining storage settings and enabling necessary extensions.
Step 4: Define ClickHouse Tables
Create the necessary tables in ClickHouse to accommodate the data you will import. Use the `CREATE TABLE` SQL command in ClickHouse, specifying the appropriate data types and table engines (e.g., MergeTree). Ensure the schema matches the structure of your exported data.
Step 5: Transfer Data Files to ClickHouse Server
Move the prepared data files to a location on the ClickHouse server where they can be accessed during the import process. This can be done using secure copy protocols like SCP or using FTP/SFTP, depending on your server's configuration and security policies.
Step 6: Load Data into ClickHouse
Use the `INSERT INTO ... FROM INFILE` command in ClickHouse to load data from your files into the defined tables. Specify the file path, format (e.g., CSV or TSV), and any necessary options to match the file structure. Carefully monitor for any errors during the process to ensure data integrity.
Step 7: Verify Data Integrity and Performance
After the import, perform data validation checks to ensure that the data has been accurately transferred and is correctly structured. Run queries to confirm that the data is accessible and that performance meets your requirements. Make adjustments as needed for optimization, such as indexing and partitioning strategies.
By following these steps, you can effectively move data from a source database to ClickHouse without relying on third-party connectors or integrations.
