How to Sync to Manually

Step 1: Export Data from SurveySparrow

Begin by logging into your SurveySparrow account. Navigate to the survey from which you want to export data. Use the export feature to download the data, typically in CSV format, as SurveySparrow provides this functionality. Save the exported file to your local system.

Step 2: Install Required Software and Tools

Ensure you have Python installed on your machine, as it will be used to process and upload the data to DynamoDB. Additionally, install the AWS SDK for Python (Boto3) using pip, which will allow your script to interact with DynamoDB. The command to install Boto3 is: `pip install boto3`.

Step 3: Set Up AWS Credentials

Configure your AWS credentials on your local machine. These credentials are necessary for Boto3 to authenticate and authorize interactions with DynamoDB. Use the AWS CLI to configure your credentials by running `aws configure` and inputting your AWS Access Key ID, Secret Access Key, region, and output format.

Step 4: Create the DynamoDB Table

In your AWS Management Console, navigate to DynamoDB and create a new table that will store the data from SurveySparrow. Define the primary key and any necessary secondary indexes, based on the structure of your data. Make sure to note the table name, as it will be required in your script.

Step 5: Write a Python Script to Process the CSV

Develop a Python script that reads the CSV file exported from SurveySparrow. Utilize Python’s built-in CSV module to parse the file. Ensure the script processes each row and formats the data appropriately for insertion into DynamoDB (e.g., converting strings to numbers where necessary).

Step 6: Insert Data into DynamoDB

Extend your Python script to use Boto3 to insert the processed data into your DynamoDB table. Use the `batch_write_item` method for efficient bulk insertion, handling each record one at a time or in batches, depending on your needs and the size of your dataset. Include error handling to manage any exceptions during insertion.

Step 7: Verify Data Integrity

After the data has been uploaded, verify the integrity and accuracy of the data in DynamoDB. You can use the AWS Management Console to manually check a few records. Alternatively, extend your Python script to fetch and verify a sample of the data programmatically to ensure that it matches the original CSV data.

By following these steps, you can effectively move data from SurveySparrow to DynamoDB without relying on third-party connectors or integrations.
