How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Export Data from Salesforce
Begin by exporting the data you want to transfer from Salesforce. Use Salesforce's Data Export feature. Navigate to "Setup," find "Data Export" in the Quick Find box, and select it. Choose the data objects you want to export and schedule the export. You'll receive an email with a link to download the data in CSV format.
Step 2: Prepare Your CSV Files
Once you've downloaded the CSV files from Salesforce, examine them to ensure they contain all the necessary fields and data. Clean up the data if needed, removing any unnecessary columns or correcting any inconsistencies. Make sure the data is formatted correctly for DynamoDB requirements.
Step 3: Set Up AWS Account and DynamoDB Table
If you haven't already, create an AWS account. Then, navigate to the AWS Management Console and access DynamoDB. Create a new DynamoDB table with the appropriate primary key (partition key and sort key, if necessary) that corresponds to your data structure from Salesforce.
Step 4: Convert CSV Data to JSON
DynamoDB requires data in JSON format. Use a script or a tool to convert your CSV files to JSON. If you're comfortable with programming, a Python script using libraries like `pandas` or `csv` can be utilized to automate this conversion. Ensure the JSON format aligns with your DynamoDB table schema.
Step 5: Write a Script to Batch Upload JSON Data
Develop a script (using Python with `boto3`, AWS SDK, or another language with AWS SDK support) to read the JSON files and batch write the data into your DynamoDB table. Leverage the `batch_write_item` function in `boto3` to efficiently upload the data in chunks, as DynamoDB has a limit on the number of writes per second.
Step 6: Handle AWS IAM Permissions
Ensure your AWS user or role has the necessary permissions to access DynamoDB. Attach a policy that allows `dynamodb:BatchWriteItem`, `dynamodb:PutItem`, and any other necessary actions to your IAM user or role. This ensures your script can interact with DynamoDB without permission issues.
Step 7: Validate Data Integrity
After uploading the data, verify that it has been accurately transferred. Perform data validation by comparing a subset of records in DynamoDB with the original Salesforce data. Use queries to ensure data consistency, and correct any discrepancies found during this validation process.
By following these steps, you can effectively transfer data from Salesforce to DynamoDB without relying on third-party connectors or integrations.
