How to Sync to Manually
Step 1: Understand TVMaze API and Data Structure
Before extracting data, familiarize yourself with the TVMaze API documentation. Identify the endpoints that provide schedule data, typically in JSON format. Understand the structure and fields of the data to plan your extraction and transformation process.
Step 2: Set Up TiDB Environment
Install and configure TiDB on your local machine or a server. TiDB is a distributed SQL database compatible with MySQL, so ensure you have a MySQL client to interact with it. Set up your database and create tables to accommodate the TVMaze schedule data, ensuring that the schema aligns with the data structure you reviewed.
Step 3: Extract Data from TVMaze API
Write a script in a language such as Python that sends HTTP GET requests to the TVMaze API endpoints. Use libraries like `requests` to handle API communication. Parse the JSON response to extract relevant fields such as show name, airing time, and episode details.
Step 4: Transform Data to Match TiDB Schema
Once data is extracted, transform it to match the table structure in your TiDB database. This might involve data type conversions, renaming fields, or aggregating data as needed. Use Python or another scripting language to perform these transformations programmatically.
Step 5: Load Data into TiDB
Use a MySQL client or programmatic access through a language like Python with libraries such as `PyMySQL` or `mysql-connector-python` to insert the transformed data into your TiDB tables. Handle any potential data integrity issues such as duplicates or null values during the loading process.
Step 6: Verify Data Integrity
After loading data, perform checks to ensure all data was transferred accurately. Query the TiDB database to compare record counts and sample data against the original JSON from TVMaze. Validate that all fields are correctly populated and data types match the schema.
Step 7: Automate the Process
Develop a script or cron job to automate the data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) process. This ensures that your TiDB database stays updated with the latest schedule data from TVMaze. Schedule the job to run at regular intervals, depending on how frequently the schedule data is updated.
By following these steps, you can efficiently transfer schedule data from TVMaze to TiDB without relying on third-party connectors or integrations.
