Summarize with AI:

TL;DR

Short answer: Salesforce data export for one-off needs is built in, through the weekly Data Export Service or Data Loader. For ongoing analysis, where CRM data has to sit next to finance and ad platforms, you need a pipeline, and the constraint that shapes every option is your org's daily API request allowance. Tools that use the Bulk API and sync incrementally stay well inside it; a naive full extract of a large org does not. Ten options:

Airbyte: open-source Salesforce source using the Bulk API with incremental sync and deleted-record capture, into any of 700+ connectors' destinations.
Fivetran: managed Salesforce connector with formula field support and no upkeep, billed on monthly active rows.
Salesforce Data 360 Zero Copy: Salesforce's own sharing to Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery and Redshift, for orgs already licensed for Data 360.
Stitch Data: simple Salesforce loading, now consolidating into Qlik Talend Cloud.
Hevo Data: no-code Salesforce connector with pre-load transformation, cloud-only and billed on events.
Boomi Data Integration: formerly Rivery, with ELT, orchestration and reverse ETL back into Salesforce.
Matillion: Salesforce query and incremental load components, with transformation inside your warehouse.
Talend: long-standing Salesforce components with data quality attached. Now Qlik Talend Cloud, no free tier.
Meltano: open-source and CLI-first, with a Salesforce tap that supports the Bulk API.
Apache Airflow: an orchestrator with a Salesforce provider. It schedules the extraction you write yourself.
One Salesforce constraint: the daily API request allowance is set by edition and licence count and shared by every integration in the org. Check that a tool uses the Bulk API for large objects and syncs incrementally on SystemModstamp, or a full extract can exhaust the allowance and break your other integrations too.

Why export Salesforce data to a warehouse?

Salesforce is the most widely used CRM, holding accounts, contacts, leads, opportunities, cases and the custom objects your team has built. Its reports are capable, and they stop at the edge of Salesforce. Blended customer acquisition cost needs ad spend; net revenue retention needs billing data; attribution from first touch to closed-won needs marketing data that never entered the CRM. Each of those questions requires Salesforce data to sit alongside something else, which is what a warehouse is for.

Two Salesforce details shape every tool below. Field history and deleted records are only captured if a tool asks for them, through history objects and queryAll. And formula fields are calculated when read, so a value in the warehouse can drift from Salesforce unless the tool re-reads or recalculates it.

How do the Salesforce ETL tools compare?

Tool	Reads Salesforce via	Destinations	Hosting	Pricing basis

Stitch Data	Bulk or REST API	Major warehouses	Cloud	Row volume tiers
Hevo Data	Managed connector	Major warehouses	Cloud	Events
Boomi Data Integration	Managed connector, plus reverse ETL	Major warehouses	Cloud	Credits
Matillion	Query and incremental load components	Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift	Your cloud account	Credits
Talend	Salesforce components, Bulk API	Broad	Cloud or on-premises	Quoted subscription
Meltano	Singer tap, Bulk or REST API	Any Singer target	Self-hosted	Free, open source
Apache Airflow	Your own code via the Salesforce provider	Whatever you write	Self-hosted or managed	Free, you run it

Which Salesforce ETL tools should you consider?

All ten read Salesforce natively. When you shortlist, check three things: Bulk API support for large objects, incremental sync, and whether deleted records and field history come through.

1. Airbyte

Airbyte is an open-source data integration platform with 700+ connectors and a community of 25,000+ data engineers. Its Salesforce source authenticates with OAuth, uses the Bulk API for large objects and the REST API where Bulk does not apply, syncs incrementally on each object's last-modified timestamp, and can include deleted records. It covers standard and custom objects, loads into any Airbyte destination, and works with dbt for modelling.

What's unique about Airbyte?

You can filter which objects sync, so a large org does not spend API allowance on objects nobody analyses, and relaunch a single failed stream rather than the whole job. Connectors are open source and editable, and the Connector Development Kit covers anything else. It runs as self-hosted open source, on Airbyte Cloud, or as Enterprise Flex, which keeps the data plane in your own environment when CRM data must stay there.

2. Fivetran

Fivetran is a closed-source, managed ELT service with 700+ connectors. Its Salesforce connector is vendor-maintained, handles formula fields so warehouse values stay in step with Salesforce, and applies schema changes automatically. It bills on monthly active rows, so frequently updated objects drive cost.

Here is a closer look at Airbyte vs Fivetran.

3. Salesforce Data 360 Zero Copy

Salesforce renamed Data Cloud to Data 360 at Dreamforce in October 2025. Its Zero Copy capability shares data in both directions with Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery and Amazon Redshift without copying it. For orgs already licensed for Data 360, sharing CRM data out this way avoids a pipeline altogether. It only shares what has been brought into Data 360, it is priced on Data 360 consumption, and it is a substantial platform to adopt purely for export.

4. Stitch Data

Stitch is a cloud extract-and-load platform with 140+ connectors, including Salesforce through either the Bulk or REST API, originally built on the Singer specification. It has no user-defined transformations and suits straightforward loading. Qlik acquired Talend, and Stitch with it, in 2023, and now publishes a migration path from Stitch to Qlik Talend Cloud.

Here is a closer look at Airbyte vs Stitch.

5. Hevo Data

Hevo Data is a no-code cloud ELT platform with 150+ connectors, including Salesforce, and built-in transformation applied before data reaches the destination. It can also sync results back to source APIs. It is cloud-only and billed on events.

6. Boomi Data Integration (formerly Rivery)

Boomi acquired Rivery in December 2024 and now sells it as Boomi Data Integration. It has a Salesforce connector and bundles transformation, orchestration and reverse ETL, so warehouse-modelled scores and segments can be pushed back into Salesforce fields. Pricing is in credits that vary by connector, which can make cost hard to model.

7. Matillion

Matillion has Salesforce query and incremental load components and pushes transformation down into Snowflake, Databricks or Redshift, with dbt support since v1.70. It bills in credits tied to job runtime and makes most sense when Matillion already runs your warehouse transformations.

Here is a closer look at Airbyte vs Matillion.

8. Talend

Talend pairs integration with data quality and governance, and has a long-standing set of Salesforce components including Bulk API support. Two things to check first: Qlik acquired Talend in 2023 and now sells it as Qlik Talend Cloud, and Talend Open Studio, the free open-source edition, was retired on 31 January 2024, so there is no free tier or self-serve route in.

9. Meltano

Meltano is an open-source, CLI-first platform spun out of GitLab that manages taps and targets as a version-controlled project. Its Salesforce tap supports both the Bulk and REST APIs. It suits teams who want pipelines defined in code; check which variant is maintained, since connector maintenance falls to the community.

10. Apache Airflow

Apache Airflow is an open-source orchestrator, not an ETL tool. Its Salesforce provider gives you a hook and operators to run SOQL queries and export results, but you write the incremental logic, Bulk API handling and loading yourself. Its real role is scheduling a connector-based tool such as Airbyte alongside your other pipelines.

How do you export data from Salesforce?

Salesforce offers several built-in routes, and which one fits depends on whether you need a one-off copy or an ongoing feed:

Data Export Service: under Setup, schedules a full export of your org as CSV files, weekly on Enterprise, Performance and Unlimited editions and monthly on others. Good for backups, but a full snapshot each time and awkward to load.
Data Loader: Salesforce's desktop and command-line tool exports the results of a SOQL query to CSV. Useful for ad hoc extracts and scriptable, but you build the scheduling and incremental logic.
Report exports: any report can be exported to Excel or CSV. Fine for a quick look, but limited to what the report shows.
Data 360 Zero Copy: shares data with your warehouse without copying it, if you are licensed for Data 360.

For ongoing analysis in a warehouse, an ETL tool that reads incrementally through the Bulk API is usually the least work and the lightest on your API allowance.

How do you start syncing Salesforce data with Airbyte?

Step 1: Set up Salesforce as a source

Use a dedicated integration user with read access to the objects you need and API Enabled permission. In Airbyte, open Sources, choose New source and select Salesforce, then authenticate with OAuth. On Open Source, create a connected app in Salesforce and enter its client ID, client secret and a refresh token. Set a start date, choose whether to include deleted records, optionally filter which objects sync, and run the connection test.

Step 2: Set up a destination

Choose where the data lands: a cloud warehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery or Redshift, a data lake, a database or cloud storage.

Step 3: Configure the connection

Select the objects you analyse rather than every object in the org, use incremental sync, and schedule the first full load outside business hours, since it draws on the same API allowance as your other integrations.

The process is the same in Airbyte Open Source, which you can deploy yourself, and in Airbyte Cloud, which you can try free for 14 days.

Which Salesforce ETL tool should you choose?

If you already license Data 360 and your warehouse is Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery or Redshift, look at Zero Copy first. Otherwise, choose by who owns the pipeline. Data teams moving Salesforce alongside other sources get the most from Airbyte, self-hosted or in Cloud, or Fivetran if they want fully managed with formula field handling and the row-based bill works. Stitch and Hevo suit simpler needs, Boomi adds reverse ETL, Matillion and Talend fit where they already run, and Meltano and Airflow are for teams who want it in code. Whichever you choose, sync only the objects you need and keep it incremental.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. How do you export all data from Salesforce?

For a full backup, use the Data Export Service under Setup, which produces CSV files for every object weekly or monthly depending on your edition. For ongoing analysis, use an ETL tool that syncs objects incrementally into a warehouse.

2. Does Salesforce ETL count against API limits?

Yes. Every API call draws on your org's daily allowance, which is set by edition and licence count and shared with your other integrations. The Bulk API retrieves large volumes in far fewer calls, and incremental sync avoids re-reading unchanged records.

3. Can ETL tools capture deleted Salesforce records?

Some can. Deleted records stay in the Salesforce recycle bin for a limited time and are visible through queryAll, so a tool that queries them, such as Airbyte with deleted records enabled, can mark them as deleted in the warehouse. Once purged from the recycle bin they are gone.

4. What is Salesforce Data 360?

Data 360 is the new name for Salesforce Data Cloud, renamed at Dreamforce in October 2025. It is Salesforce's customer data platform, and its Zero Copy feature shares data with Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery and Redshift without copying it.
